Invisible Airships

impressivelad Whoa! I listen to a lot of jam material but this really is cream of the crop. Invisible Airships goes a long way in melding modern, norse influences with old school kraut jamming. Despite the loose nature of the music the band is able to chop and change the rhythm and time signature on a whim. The music is h-h-heavy but not in your face, it sounds like there's a lot more than three people in this band. Highly recommended for fans of norse prog/jazz, or if you're bored of run of the mill psyche. Favorite track: Avenue Amgala.

chrisescalante It's very unique, different and so incredible. Favorite track: Bosphorus.

Smekermann Amgala Temple sits at a transcendent crossroad between psych rock and Norwegian jazz, with an abundance of krautberry bushes on either side of the fork. The most prominent example of the krautrock influence is on the stunning The Eccentric, which features really cool off-kilter rhythms, and a vintage keyboard sound Kraftwerk would be proud of. On the psych rockier sound of things, there’s the absolutely infectious Avenue Amgala, which melds gorgeous Nordic guitar tones with 60s psych. Favorite track: Avenue Amgala.

about

Amgala Temple is the sound of three musical forces combined. The result is an overwhelming clash of spontaneity and control, improvisation and clairvoyance - all meshed together in a quest to make something radiant.

The mix of Lars Horntveth, Amund Maarud and Gard Nilssen is a wish come true for music fans, as they each have made great impact as bandleaders, solo artists and musicians in an array of projects - be it with Jaga Jazzist, Susanne Sundfør, Todd Terje, Morudes, Bushman’s Revenge, a-ha or Gard Nilssen’s Acoustic Unity.

But Amgala Temple sounds little like the above. These musicians’ profound interest in old and new sounds, and their deep respect for each other, was essential in creating this space where they could create more freely - venturing into new sonic landscapes - letting whatever happens happen.

Lars Horntveth´s multi-instrumentalism - playing bass, synthesizers and more, Amund Maarud´s wild guitar abilities and Gard Nilssen’s impeccable freeform drumming makes for a breathtaking sound.

Their debut album was recorded at Oslo Konserthus and Amper Tone Studios, and was recorded in only a few days. As a document of their natural sound, the recordings remain untampered, resulting in a very honest display of their core sound.

This album is the first of a series of records that will be offered by Amgala Temple through Pekula Records, a record label set to document bold sounding, experimental and imaginative music from in and outside of Norway.

Amgala Temple is one of the most exciting musical projects to come out of this country in a long time, and we cannot wait to follow their rapid evolution as a band in the coming years.
